As the economy turns around, a business in Jenks is pushing for shoppers to keep their sales tax dollars local. Liv-A-Little Boutique & Gifts, a shop located at 201 E. Main St., kicked off the idea for the campaign last month. DeAnna VanBecelaere, one of the owners of the shop, partnered with 10 other businesses and the Jenks Chamber of Commerce to push the program.

“It is so important for the people of Jenks to support our local businesses,” said Annette Bowles, Jenks Chamber of Commerce president. “I applaud DeAnna for taking the initiative on this project and running with it.”

As part of the campaign, sponsors of the effort will have T-shirts for sale at $10 a piece and canvas shopping bags for sale for $7 each. Shoppers who go to Liv-A-Little wearing the T-shirt or carrying the bag June 24-26 will receive a 15-percent discount as part of a customer appreciation discount for shopping in Jenks.

VanBecelaere said other retailers may offer discounts as well. Shoppers will need to check with individual stores to see what their policy is. She said there will be ongoing promotions with the totes and shirts all summer.

Sponsors of the shop local campaign include Liv-A-Little, the Jenks Chamber of Commerce, Windows by Jeff, BancFirst, The UPS Store – Riverside, Integrity Printing, UDirtyDawg, Pro Detail, Dave Puckett – State Farm, TTCU of Jenks, Citizens Security Bank of Jenks and Gaetano’s Pizzeria & Creamery.
